Finding Time to Exercise, Workout or Run - Where Does the Time Go!

!±8± Finding Time to Exercise, Workout or Run - Where Does the Time Go!

As a Father of 3, husband, son, brother, business owner, entrepreneur, coach, partner, homework checker, clothes folder, dog walker, story teller, cook, dishwasher, bookkeeper, maid, chauffeur, movie watcher, hugger, masseuse, volunteer, vacation planner, IT person, dreamer, runner and sometimes marathoner, I am pulled in many directions. However I know the importance of being fit. Being unfit would hinder my ability to fulfill my roles, of which the most important is being a Dad and Husband!

As you know, being fit helps you create more energy so you can enjoy life. Why waste the day being tired or sick and spending the day at the doctor's and paying doctor's bills! You have a choice. Don't let others take your hard earned money by being unfit, but that is another article!

Here are some tips that can help carve out some extra time to work out;

Hire a babysitter that you trust to watch your little ones.
If you belong to a gym, take advantage of their child care services. It's less expensive than a babysitter traveling to your home. And they get to socialize with others.
If you are running, use a jogging stroller. Usually when you increase the intensity, you can reduce the time to work out.
If your kids are older, have your kids run, skate or bike along with you. You can have them be your support team that carries your water and GU.
If you have a short amount of time, break up the workout. 15-20 minutes in the morning as you get up, and 15-20 minutes in the evening will burn calories. Many people like 10 Minute Trainer!
Develop a childcare swap with other parents, where you can drop off your child as you go for a run.
If your child is at an activity, like swimming, baseball, piano or soccer, you can run around the field or block and do some pushups or pull ups by the jungle gym. Remember the Abs!
Most important, write it down in your daily planner. A planner will keep you accountable.
Create a goal, like signing up for a 5K or a marathon, and work your way back, noting all the exercises and running you need to do to prepare for the race.
Always show up. Be consistent, so people will know this is "me" time to recharge.
Share your plan with everyone involved, because if you tell them it is important, they will work with you.
Ask! If you don't ask others to help, you will not receive it. Your friends and family may have other ideas that will work with your lifestyle.

Now go out and run! Have fun! Please leave other suggestions also runwithnoah.com!

The Perfect Baby Room Decor

!±8± The Perfect Baby Room Decor

Baby room decor is very important for your children's further development. Baby room decorations are a psychological factor, which helps the little one to feel comfortable and at home. The baby room décor should pacify the child's eyes, and should be chosen accordingly to its age. It is that soothing environment needed for the healthy development of your child. You should carefully choose the wallpapers in the baby room, because they surround your little one and bring different thoughts and feelings. A baby is as sensible to its surroundings as any other adult. They will be affected by the way their surrounding looks like. A well-designed baby room décor can be really helpful in raising your kid.

Color is an important factor. You should decorate the room with the majority of one color. But which one should predominate? Which is the most appropriate color for babies? Soft, gentle colors can be the answer. Don't choose too loud and bright colors, because they will not sooth the atmosphere. But the baby toys should be bright: because babies really enjoy seeing and playing with bright and shiny things. The walls and the wallpapers should be relaxing though. Babies would feel stressed if they were put in a bright baby room decoration, and would have sleep problems, panic attacks, eating deficiency and so on.

You should also choose the baby room décor in accordance with the whole atmosphere of your house. It is up to you to make the baby room part of your home.

The theme of the baby room should be carefully considered. It may by floral or animal theme, because babies really like animals and flowers. Animals are preferable, though, because they are more lively and vivid, and they can make your baby react more actively at its environment. Choose the animal decorations for the wallpapers, the blanket, the curtains. Animals are fun for everyone, and moreover, they give the babies something to look at while they are lying in their beds or cribs.

You can also pick up the night sky theme, which is very relaxing for a sound sleep. Deep blue is used to decorate the walls and ceiling. The pictures of stars and planets can give the baby a sense of wonder, and it will like it immensely. Babies can be touched by the wondrous universe, they appreciate the beauty, don't forget that! A night sky decoration will make your baby a dreamer even from this early age on!

Why is it So Difficult to Buy a Axiom Mobility Stroller in Canada?

!±8± Why is it So Difficult to Buy a Axiom Mobility Stroller in Canada?

Axiom Mobility strollers are designed to provide families an opportunity to get out in situations where conventional mobility devices just can't cut it - such as exploring hiking trails, trekking through the snow in wintry weather, or hanging out at the beach. They are heavy duty yet lighter weight than other comparable strollers.

The problem is that many people that have a need for the flexibility of these strollers, have had a very difficult time finding, in Canada, a medical supply store or a mobility supply dealer that has the Axiom strollers available.

People in Canada can easily find the strollers at on line United States retailers. The problem is that many of the on line retailers do not ship to Canada or if they do the extra costs of getting the stroller into the country is prohibitively expensive.

For example, the Axiom size 1 stroller is designed for a child 4 months to 4 years old and has a maximum weight capacity of 85 pounds. You can find it on line at a price of 0. If you can find a USA dealer to ship the stroller to Canada the cost to ship the stroller to Canada will cost an additional , and then add to that the custom clearance charges of to get the stroller across the border. That 0 stroller is now 0 2B% 2B% for a new whopping total of 0.

That was then, this is now. That same Axiom 1 stroller is now available in Canada for 9.99 including shipping, customs and duty.

There is now a Canadian distributor of Axiom strollers size 1, 2 and 3 to Canadian medical supply stores and mobility supply dealers. What that means is that families can now contact organizations such as...

Shoppers Home Health Care Motion Specialties Harding Medical Supplies

...and work with the staff of these organizations to discuss and determine their needs. If it is determined that the Axiom stroller can meet their needs they can now easily order through their medical supply store.

Another pricing example is the Axiom 2 stroller which is designed for a weight capacity of 150 pounds. If ordered from a USA dealer it will cost ,245 after adding freight, duty and custom broker charges. It is now available from Canadian medical supply stores for ,085. Similarly, the Axiom 3 which is designed for a weight capacity of 200 pounds, if ordered from a USA dealer will cost after adding all charges ,360. It is now available from Canadian medical supply stores for ,200.

The cost of the stroller is important. Even more important though is being able to get the equipment that you family needs. It is good news for active families, that will benefit from having a special need stroller, that the Axiom line of mobility strollers is now easily available in Canada.

Tipping Tips and Guidelines

!±8± Tipping Tips and Guidelines

One of the more confusing things that people run across when they are traveling is tipping for services that they receive. Questions such as...

do I tip? is the tip included? how much do I tip? do I tip even if the service I received is not up to standard?

Many services that are provided to you while you travel are widely known to be a service that is tipped. These services include (but are not limited to) restaurants, bars, valet parking, luggage handlers at the airport and at your hotel, etc. If you receive good service from a person providing a service that is tipped service - the service comes with an implied obligation to tip for that good service. For example, when a waiter at a restaurant provides you service - they are providing this service to you with the expectation of being tipped/compensated a minimum of 15% for quality service.

So keep this tipping guide (alphabetically listed for your convenience) handy at all times so you'll know exactly how much to reward all those who help you achieve the vacation of your dreams.

A Traveler's Tipping Guide

Luggage Handler such as Bellman/Baggage Porter -2 per bag, more if extremely heavy Assistant waiter/busboy on a cruise per person/per day Bar Waiter or Bartender 15% to 20% of the tab, with a minimum of 50 cents per soft drink, per alcoholic drink Cabin Steward on a cruise per person/per day Concierge -10 each time you receive personal assistance Doorman/Hailer of Taxis Housekeeping/Maid per day Room Service 15% of your order Shuttle/Bus Driver from the airport to your hotel per person Taxi Driver - this varies depending on the location. Ask your bellman at your hotel what the custom is for tipping taxi drivers. Normally it is 10-15% of the fare, and then to for each bag they assist you with. Tour Guide (short tour) per person for a half-day tour, for full-day tour Tour Guide (long tour) -8 per person per day Valet Parking Attendant -2 to bring your car to you Waiter on a cruise (waiter) per person/per day Waiter 15% of bill (excl. tax) for adequate service; 20% for very good service; no less than 10% for poor service. (Some restaurants in Europe and Asia automatically add 15 percent to the bill. When this happens tipping is not expected. If unsure if this charge has been added to your bill ask your waiter.)

Shopping for Strollers - Ratings and Review

!±8± Shopping for Strollers - Ratings and Review

Have you ever made a purchase and the later experienced cognitive dissonance or buyer's remorse? That is, you regret making the purchase for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons for cognitive dissonance is that you discover you could have purchased a better quality product for the same money or you could have purchased the same product for less money elsewhere. The best way to avoid being disappointed with your decision is to first due some research.

Many consumers, including myself, rely heavily on Consumer Reports for their testing and rating of products. Then the consumer can choose a product with greater confidence that it is a quality product. This however, only satisfies half of the equation. The consumer now knows the relative quality of the product they want to purchase but they do not yet know where they can find the best price.

The second half of the equation requires additional research on the part of the consumer. The internet is an invaluable tool when it comes to comparison shopping. You can compare the price of the product you desire without ever leaving the comfort of your home. You can then decide to purchase it online (for convenience) or drive to the retailer that offers the best price.

This article will hopefully help you in making a decision on which stroller to purchase for your new baby or babies. I use Consumer Reports' ratings for the relative quality rating of the strollers and add my own price comparison research to assist in your decision.

Guide to the Ratings

Overall score is based primarily on performance, maneuverability (all-terrain strollers), ease of use, and safety. Performance is panelists' impression of ease of pushing and maneuvering on varied terrain while walking (all-terrain strollers) or running (jogging strollers). Ease of use is primarily based on ease of safety harness use, folding and unfolding, adjusting backrest, lifting, carrying, and engaging wheel brakes. Safety for each stroller was assessed by testing for compliance with ASTM F 833-05a voluntary standard and a stability test designed by Consumers Union.

Strollers that did not meet the standard or had relatively lower stability on an adjustable inclined plane were downgraded. Price is approximate retail for stroller. Maneuverability was assessed by trained staffers on how well the strollers maneuvered S-turns through cones, narrow sections, grass, dirt trails, uphill, downhill, and steps while walking. Durability was assessed by rolling the strollers 19 miles over 150,000 bumps with a 40 pound bag in the seat, then each stroller was folded and unfolded 10 times to check for mechanical failure or unusual wear.

Babies Cry! What Can You Do to Stop It?

!±8± Babies Cry! What Can You Do to Stop It?

I am a grandpa and I know that babies cry. And why not! They can't speak, they can't tell you what they need, so if they want to communicate to you they cry!

Because we know that babies will cry, there is no way around it, but you can do some things to reduce the number of times that they do, and reduce the length of time.

Try to deal with your baby before they start crying. If you can do this then the odds are that they will cry less, and when they do it will be for a shorter period of time.

That's all fine and dandy, but how do you deal with your baby before they start? The answer is a two part answer.

Learn why they cry Anticipate that the circumstances are such that when they will start and then eliminate or reduce the circumstances that will lead up to it.

So here it is, why do they cry, and what can you do to minimize it

Reason # 1. They have pooped or wet their pants and they need changing. To anticipate this problem check their diaper regularly. One of my daughters has a feel test, she puts a finger on to the diaper to feel if baby is wet. The same daughter also has a smell test. She picks up baby and takes a whiff of the area that is covered by the diaper. If the baby needs changing do it before the crying begins. Reason # 2. They want to be held. They want to be close to mom or dad. They want to hear familiar voices, feel familiar touches. Many babies have a routine, such as after being changed or after being fed they want to be held. Learn what their needs are and if they need to be held (after being changed for example)  then pick them up. If you are not always able to pick baby up consider using a carrier such as a Heart to Heart sling or BabyTrekker carrier. That way your child can be held and you can still have your hands free. Reason # 3. Baby is hungry. Learn to watch for the signs that your baby is hungry. When you baby is hungry does he or she start to fuss, make noises, etc. If it is close to the time to feed baby do so before they start to cry. Another suggestion is to keep a journal where you can record the time of the day, the signs that the baby is making indicating that they are hungry, and what happened when the baby was fed. Reason # 4. Baby is either too cold or too hot. Most babies, especially newborns like to be bundled up and kept warm. Try to avoid situations where the baby will feel cold. If stepping outside make sure baby is well bundled. If changing the baby's clothes make sure that you are all set with everything you need so that you can quickly make the change and get your baby wrapped back up again. Reason # 5. Baby has had too much excitement. If you are out visiting with family and friends and your baby's routine is changed it may be difficult for the baby to take it all in. When you are out and about with your baby periodically take some time away from everything and everyone to have some calm and quiet time with just you and baby. Reason # 6. Baby doesn't feel good. Eventually you will be able to distinguish the crying that happens when your baby is not feeling well versus the cry that means that baby is hungry or uncomfortable. When you baby is crying with that "I'm not feeling well cry", make sure that there isn't a piece of clothing that is causing the crying. If that isn't the problem take their temperature. If their temperature is above normal or if the crying persists contact your doctor. Reason # 7. Mystery reason. There is no real reason why the baby is crying. It's their normal fussiness crying. Here are some things that you can do to help to soothe baby. Wrap baby up and hold him or her close Put baby in a baby sling carrier and start moving. Quite often the motion of being carried will calm the baby Rock gently in a rocking chair Take baby for a car ride Take baby for a walk in their stroller Touch the baby with slow and gentle movements of your hands. This is especially useful when the baby's back or belly is rubbed. Let the baby suck on their pacifier
